Dr. Bou Said: Humanity Is Facing an Era of Lies, Distorted Facts and Fabricated Narratives; Syria Is at the Heart of the Crisis

Dr. Haissam Bou Said, High Representative for External Affairs of the International Human Rights Council (IHRC), which holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and Head of its Mission to Geneva, stated that humanity is currently experiencing one of its most dangerous phases in terms of the spread of lies, distortion of facts, defamation, manipulation of information, and the deliberate fabrication of narratives.
Dr. Bou Said stressed that the situation in Syria has become a striking example of this dangerous phenomenon, where facts are increasingly distorted and selective narratives are promoted to serve particular political agendas, with the support or cover of influential actors. Such practices, he warned, risk obscuring the truth and undermining the rights of victims.
He emphasized that Syria does not need more politically manufactured narratives; it needs documented facts, independent investigations, objective assessment of developments on the ground, and genuine accountability based on international law and human rights standards.
According to Dr. Bou Said, the continued manipulation of facts and the selective presentation of events according to political interests will only deepen the crisis and further erode confidence in the international system. He warned that remaining silent in the face of such a trajectory could push humanity toward an even more serious stage of political, ethical, and humanitarian deterioration.
He concluded:
“It is time to put an end to this dangerous course before humanity descends further into deterioration and moral decline—particularly when those at the top of the hierarchy and those surrounding them become part of the problem rather than part of the solution. Truth cannot be manufactured through statements, justice cannot be built upon lies, and history will not forgive those who attempt to falsify documented facts.”
