Dr. Haidar Al-Sharaa Warns of Global Debt Reaching Critical Levels, Urges Structural Reforms and Urgent Portfolio Diversification
[Beirut / International Capitals] – In a significant statement issued by Dr. Haidar Al-Sharaa, Senior Advisor to the International Secretary-General Dr. Haitham Abou Said, serious warnings have been raised regarding the severe risks posed by global debt reaching an unprecedented $353 trillion, equivalent to 305% of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This marks a profound and dangerous gap between actual economic production and ballooning debt.
Dr. Al-Sharaa explained that this structural imbalance in the global economy stems from several root causes, notably:
Demographic Shifts: The aging of societies and its direct impact on productivity.
Lack of Strategic Vision: The absence of clear, long-term plans to build free, advanced economic systems that cater to basic human needs.
Military Escalation: The sharp increase in defense and military spending—particularly in the United States—posing a direct threat to global economic stability.
Corporate and Sectoral Crises: The accumulation of debt among non-financial corporations, alongside the reduction of subsidies for manufacturing and food industries (as observed in China), and the failure to achieve minimum partial self-sufficiency.
Dr. Al-Sharaa emphasized that developing countries are suffering the most from these crises, driven by economic mismanagement, rapid population growth, and a loss of proper developmental direction.
In light of these alarming indicators, the Senior Advisor issued an urgent recommendation to investors to diversify their investment portfolios and move away from heavy reliance on U.S. Treasury bonds, which have become increasingly vulnerable to political volatility and shifts.
The statement concluded by affirming the availability of international programs and visions capable of addressing and resolving global economic crises, provided that coherent working mechanisms are adopted to align with the rapid geopolitical shifts in the region and the world.
