رأى المسؤول الإقليمي للشؤون البيئية في وكالة الأنباء الدولية لحقوق الإنسان في لبنان المعتمدة من المجلس الدولي لحقوق الإنسان (صفة خاصة إيكوسوك) الأستاذ أديب اسعد، أن البيئة تتطلب عملاً ملحاً في مجالات إدارة النفايات، مكافحة التلوث (الهواء والمياه)، حماية التنوع البيولوجي، الاستخدام المستدام للموارد المائية، سنّ وتطبيق قوانين بيئية فعالة، وتعزيز الوعي البيئي، مع التركيز على تحديات مثل غياب التطبيق الفعلي للقوانين وفعالية المؤسسات البيئية. كلام “أسعد” جاء مع وفد الهيئة خلال لقائه الممثل الأعلى للشؤون الخارجية للمجلس الدولي لحقوق الإنسان ورئيس بعثتها إلى جنيف الدكتور هيثم بو سعيد حيث وضعه بجو العمل المنوي العمل عليه إقليمياً ومن ضمنها لبنان والتي تتناول العناوين الرئيسية للعمل البيئي في لبنان:
١- إدارة النفايات والمخلفات.
٢- حماية المياه
٣- مكافحة التلوث
٤- حماية التنوع البيولوجي والموارد الطبيعية
٥- التنمية المستدامة والتخطيط
٦- الجانب القانوني والمؤسساتي
٧- الوعي والتعليم
Following his meeting with Bou Said, Mr. Asaad stated: “Environmental issues in Lebanon and the region have become an urgent need.”
Mr. Adib Asaad, the Regional Environmental Affairs Officer at the International Human Rights News Agency in Lebanon, accredited by the International Council for Human Rights (ECOSOC), emphasized the urgent need for action in the areas of waste management, pollution control (air and water), biodiversity protection, sustainable water resource use, enactment and enforcement of effective environmental laws, and raising environmental awareness. He highlighted challenges such as the lack of effective law enforcement and the ineffectiveness of environmental institutions. Mr. Asaad’s remarks came during a meeting between the agency’s delegation and Dr. Haitham Bou Said, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs of the International Council for Human Rights and head of its mission to Geneva. Dr. Bou Said briefed Mr. Asaad on the planned regional work, including in Lebanon, focusing on the main areas of environmental action in Lebanon:
1- Waste and refuse management
2- Water protection
3- Pollution control
4- Biodiversity and natural resource protection
5- Sustainable development and planning
6- Legal and institutional aspects
7- Awareness and education
