The High Representative for External Affairs of the International Human Rights Council, accredited by the United Nations under ECOSOC special consultative status, and Head of its Mission to Geneva, Dr. Haissam Bou-Said, stated, following consultations held yesterday with the Presidential Council regarding the current developments in the Middle East and their potential outcomes, that initiatives conducted behind the scenes and away from public media exposure must be supported in order to calm the escalating events and avoid a major security catastrophe.
He emphasized that responsibility lies with all parties without exception.
Dr. Bou-Said added that he hopes the diplomatic efforts and external engagements undertaken by the Council will resonate with concerned actors and prompt a constructive response before the region reaches a point of no return.
In his concluding remarks to the International News Agency for Human Rights, he noted that officials from both sides of the conflict have begun to recognize the gravity of the situation and understand that there will be no true victor in this battle. The least costly path forward, he stressed, is to sit down within a structured framework that takes into account the outcomes of previous rounds, aiming to reach preliminary understandings that could pave the way toward broader agreements.
صرّح الممثل الأعلى للشؤون الخارجية للمجلس الدولي لحقوق الإنسان المعتمد من الأمم المتحدة بصفة خاصة إيكوسوك ورئيس بعثتها إلى جنيف الدكتور هيثم بو سعيد، أنه وبعد مشاورات أجراها أمس مع المجلس الرئاسي حول الأوضاع الراهنة في الشرق الأوسط وما قد تؤول إليه من نتائج، شدّد على ضرورة دعم المبادرات التي تُدار خلف الكواليس وبعيداً عن الإعلام العلني، بهدف تهدئة الأحداث الجارية وتفادي كارثة أمنية كبرى قد تطال الجميع.
وأكد أن المسؤولية مشتركة وتقع على عاتق جميع الأطراف دون استثناء، في هذه المرحلة الحساسة من تطورات المنطقة.
وأضاف أن المجلس يأمل أن تلقى التحركات والاتصالات التي يقوم بها على المستوى الخارجي صدىً إيجابياً وتجاوباً من قبل الجهات المعنية، قبل الوصول إلى مرحلة يصعب فيها احتواء التداعيات.
وختم في بيان لوكالة وكالة الأنباء الدولية لحقوق الإنسان أن هناك مسؤولين من كلا طرفي النزاع باتوا يدركون خطورة الوضع، وأنه لا منتصر حقيقياً في هذه المواجهة، مشيراً إلى أن الخيار الأقل كلفة يتمثل في الجلوس ضمن برنامج عمل يأخذ بعين الاعتبار نتائج الجولات السابقة، وصولاً إلى تفاهمات مبدئية تمهّد لاتفاقات أوسع وأكثر استقراراً.
