Dr. Ibrahim: From Amchit to Tripoli—Turning Women-Led Initiatives into Steps Toward Solutions!

Driven by the belief that effective action by women goes beyond merely raising issues—extending instead to taking initiative and contributing to solutions—we have joined forces. This collaboration brings together Dr. Maya Ibrahim (President of the Manarat Al-Ofok Association and Head of the Family and Child Unit at the International News Agency) and Ms. Rola Al-Mourad (President of the Afaq Association and a consultant in strategy, political relations, and communications) to pool our efforts and expertise for the benefit of our community.

As part of our commitment to finding practical, sustainable solutions to the escalating waste crisis in Tripoli, we visited the Mayor of Amchit (in the Byblos District), Dr. George Khoury, today. Our goal was to learn from the municipality’s experience in managing this issue and to explore the modern technologies and methods that helped mitigate the crisis’s impact in a short period.

This visit was more than just a meeting; it was a first step toward transforming community initiatives into tangible collaboration that supports the efforts of municipalities and relevant stakeholders.

We believe that social responsibility compels us not to stop at merely describing crises, but to actively seek out successful models, open channels for dialogue, and build bridges of cooperation between experts and decision-makers. Our goal is not to replace the relevant institutions, but rather to be active partners in supporting their efforts and contributing to the formulation of practical ideas and solutions—hoping that this joint endeavor yields tangible steps that benefit Tripoli and its people.
We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the Mayor of Amchit, Dr. George Khoury, for the warm welcome, for sharing their valuable experience, and for his spirit of cooperation and openness.
We believe that women can be partners in driving change, and that small initiatives—when combined with determination and expertise—can pave the way for significant achievements.
This visit is merely the beginning; the next steps are a story for another time.
